Think of it; the boxes, the cartons, the bags. Rolls and rolls of packing tape. That regifted label maker with the sticky labels that have a hard time working. Getting back that security deposit. Coning off a spot for the moving van to park.
Who doesn't love to move?
Having done it now nearly a dozen times and assisted friends almost as much, I can wholeheartedly say I would rather shove the bamboo shoots up through my fingernails myself than move.
Of course, my last move was made easier on me by wedding the lovely, talented, and highly organized (not unlike Office Depot) beauty Nicole.
It was simplicity itself. She had a furnished apartment, beautiful stuff. I was living a basic dorm-like experience. The borrowed futon, the 10 year old pressed board computer desk. The dresser left over from an ex-brother-in-law.
So, moving for me wasn't so much "moving" per se as it was composting. Half of my stuff either stayed with the apartment or was neatly piled up for the refuse collectors to refuse, or collect.
Now moved in to our lovely condo in Jersey for nearly 8 months, I look back with fond memories at a relatively calm moving experience.
I know, however, that is not the norm. My friend Keith can tell you of relocations past where life did not bode so well for our band of intrepid workpeople.
I said all that to say this.
This is the new blog, renewed, refreshed, rejuvenated, blah blah blah. Could moving a blog bring on the same agita as moving a piano up a 2 1/2 foot wide staircase?
I mean there were layouts to choose (Classic, Elegant, Theatre style), themes to consider (Eggplant, purples, Earth tones), passwords to reconsider (the backwards birthday or the favorite dog from days of yore?). Allow the passer by to view or just the close comrades?
Bring back the packing tape!!!
As I open this new chapter of blogdom this first week of 2006, I'm presented with this conundrum.
But, being completely content as I find myself in the lush, tropical paradise of New Jersey, I'll have to opt for opening up my blog storefront here at Live Journal.
Hopefully this will be the beginning of many good things to come. If not, there's always another Eggplant theme around the corner.

Can moving a blog be as stressful as moving apartments?
